    Members of the project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution “, Rodrigo Bonifacio and Leopoldo Teixeira, are going to a technical visit to UFCG on days 20th , 21st and May 22nd. The purpose of this visit is to discuss and analyze a set of techniques and tools for development of Software Product Lines, and working on a preparation of an associated article.


    This project is coordinated by CIn-UFPE, with the collaboration of institutions UFRN, UFCG, UFRPE, UFS and UPE. The project goal is to develop tools to support the construction and evolution of software product lines.

  • Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution

    An important competitive advantage for software companies is the ability to launch similar products, or variations of a product adapted to the peculiarities of specific clients, with agility and reduced costs without compromising quality. This has become possible through the development of Software Product Lines (SPL).


    The project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution” of INES is to develop tools to support the construction and evolution of software product lines. In this context, three areas related to product lines will be covered:

    • Managing variations and traceability requirements;
    • Extraction, refactoring and optimization;
    • Languages for modularization of features.

    The results of this study will help software companies to initiate and develop product families with agility and reduced costs without compromising quality. Furthermore, approaches and tools developed will enable the transfer of technology via courses and postgraduate courses to advanced graduate.


    This project is coordinated by CIn-UFPE, with the collaboration of institutions UFRN, UFCG, UFRPE, UFS, and UPE.

    The paper “A Systematic SOA-based Architecture Process” was accepted for publication at 21st International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE).

    This activity is part of the project  “An Investigation of Methods, Processes, Tools, and Metrics for the Development of Software Product Lines (SPL)” — in portuguese, Uma Investigação de Processos, Ferramentas e Métricas para o Desenvolvimento de Linhas de Produto de Software.

  • Distributed Development Oriented by Software Product Lines

    Software development is a complex and expensive process. To reduce complexity, improve the quality of systems, increase productivity and reduce time and development costs, several approaches based on software reuse have been proposed. Among them, it is possible to highlight the Software Product Lines (SPL), by enabling the systematic and predictable reuse, by the development of a set of software products with common core architecture and points of variation to each product. However, develop and grow a SPL requires the participation of several experienced professionals on problem domain, which is not always available in a single team or even organization. Thus, there is often a need to make used of distributed teams in different departments, organizations, cities, regions and countries, which in turn, characterizes the Distributed Software Development (DSD). DSD is still favoured by the need to fund and utilize resources, regardless of location and the possibility of the formation of agile development teams to exploit market opportunities. Therefore, this project aims to integrate models, methodologies and techniques for DSD and SPL to design processes and development tools to distributed development oriented by software product lines. The idea is to identify the DSD main problems and offer recommendations of how to divide the activities to distributed teams who develop a product line.   • Desenvolvimento dirigido por modelos e ontologias na construção de aplicações educacionais

    O projeto tem os seus objetivos centrados na integração de novos elementos tecnológicos com ênfase (i) na aplicação de materiais de aprendizagem de forma padronizada, com o suporte de especificações padrão de metadados educacionais, e (ii) ênfase na representação do conhecimento pedagógico aplicável a diversas situações de ensino/aprendizagem com o suporte da engenharia de software e engenharia ontológica. O uso estas especificações permitiria a descrição do processo educacional na forma de unidades ou blocos contendo uma descrição do processo e os conteúdos de aprendizagem com a finalidade de tratar questões de interoperabilidade e reutilização. A integração destas tecnologias traria como principais vantagens:

    • Permitir a manipulação de objetos e unidades de aprendizagem (U.A.) de forma bastante flexível com a possibilidade de definição/(re)utilização de unidades de aprendizagem interoperáveis a partir de um repositório de conteúdos  educacionais facilitando o suporte ao trabalho do professor;
    • Facilitar o desenvolvimento de atividades com base na personalização a partir de unidades de aprendizagem individualizadas;
    • Facilitar a avaliação diagnóstica e continuada a partir do registro de execução (log) de unidades de aprendizagem.

    A fim de facilitar as tarefas relativas ao processo de Engenharia de Software e torná-las mais consistentes, este trabalho propõe o uso de uma metodologia de desenvolvimento de software baseada em ontologias, com foco na utilização deste conhecimento sistematizado desde a elicitação de requisitos até as fases de projeto e implementação. Pretende-se a adaptação desta metodologia numa abordagem de desenvolvimento dirigido por modelo, mais especificamente MDA (Model Driven Architecture).
