Programming Winter Course

Pablo Heiber from Universid de Buenos Aires is going to give an advanced programming course at UFCG (29th August to 2nd September). Students from UFCG, UFRN, UFPE, ICMC/USP São Carlos, and Motiva (high school) will have an opportunity to improve their skills and prepare for programming contests, such as ACM/ICPC and  International Olympiad in Informatics.

The paper “25 Years of Software Engineering in Brazil: An Analysis of SBES History” was accepted for publication at the XXV Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering, in conjunction with the 2nd Congress on Software: Theory and Practice (CBSoft). This activity is part of the project  “An Investigation of Methods, Processes, Tools, and Metrics for the Development of Software Product Lines (SPL)” — in portuguese, Uma Investigação de Processos, Ferramentas e Métricas para o Desenvolvimento de Linhas de Produto de Software.

INES researchers organize the 4th RiSE International Summer School (RISS)

INES is one of the sponsors of the  4th RiSE International Summer School (RISS). RiSS is the first summer school to discuss the main advances in the field of software reuse with the participation of the main experts in the field from academy and industry.

It is the second time that RiSS will be held in Salvador. In this year, the list of topics will include: Agile Product Lines, Dynamic Product Lines, Service-Oriented Product Lines, Multiple Product Lines.

The lecturers are:

• Jaejoon Lee (Lancaster University, UK)
• Mike Hinchey (University of Limerick, Ireland)

Abstract: In order to achieve the proclaimed benefits of Global Software Development (GSD), many organizations adopt GSD processes, allocating implementation tasks among globally distributed teams. However, cultural and geographical distances among teams have direct impact on communication effectiveness, which in turn affects projects’ progress and success. In order to mitigate such communication issues, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm based approach for allocating distributed development teams to implementation tasks of software modules, taking into account both non-technical features of teams and dependences among software modules.

* PEREIRA, T. ; ELIAS, G. . Utilizando Algoritmo de Otimização para Recomendação de Módulos em Projetos de Linhas de Produto de Software. In: II Workshop de Engenharia de Software baseada em Buscas, 2011, São Paulo.

Abstract: In order to demonstrate the diversity of scenarios to which techniques of Search Based Software Engineering could be applied, this paper describes a case study on the use of an approach to recommend modules in distributed Software Product Line projects. In such projects, dependencies between components can compromise the work of development teams. Thus, the clustering of tightly coupled components into modules to be developed by dispersed teams is an alternative to make their work more efficient.

Abstract: Taking into account the benefits of global software development, many organizations allocate implementation tasks among globally distributed teams. However, their geographical distance generates several issues which reduce the communication effectiveness, directly affecting the project’s progress. In order to mitigate such issues, based on non-technical features of distributed development teams and dependences among software modules, this paper describes an approach for recommending the allocation of development teams to implementation tasks of software modules, detailing the used attributes on the non-technical analysis and how they are obtained.

* SANTOS, V. S. ; ELIAS, G. . Uma Abordagem Baseada em Lógica Nebulosa para Seleção de Equipes Distribuídas Tecnicamente Qualificadas. In: V Workshop de Desenvolvimento Distribuído de Software, 2011, São Paulo.

Abstract: The selection process of human resources is complex and inherently subjective, requiring to measure and represent knowledge and experience of professionals. Such difficulty is even higher in a distributed setting. Furthermore, in the context of software projects, specific needs should be taken into account to make possible to identify and select the best skilled professionals to develop a project. Thereby, in order to abstract complexity and subjectivity, this paper presents a fuzzy logic based approach for selecting technically skilled teams to implement software modules of distributed software product line projects.

This work was developed inside the project Combining Formal Methods and Testing to Develop Embedded Real Time Systems — in Portuguese, Combinando Técnicas de Métodos Formais e Teste na Construção de Sistemas Embarcados de Tempo Real.

UFRN affiliated INES researcher David Déharbe, together with LORIA colleagues Thomas Bouton, Diego Caminha B. de Oliveira and Pascal Fontaine have their paper veriT: an open, trustable and efficient SMT-solver accepted for publication at the 22nd International Conference on Automated Deduction, a.k.a CADE-22.
