  • Technical visit to Barcelona Tech and HUVH

    Jones Albuquerque, coordinator of DESERT-MAP project, will visit

    UPC. Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech.

    Computational Biology Complex Systems Research Group (

    from 27 July 2015 to 08 August 2015. The research group maintains projects with the UPC since 2011.This visit is to evaluate the possibility of the integration platform designed to desertification risk analysis to combat epidemics in Africa.

    Jones will also visit

    Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH): Tropical and International Health Center and Microbiology Department, both integrated in the International Health Project of the Catalan National Health System (PROSICS

    in the period of 10 to 14 August 2015, to discuss and evaluate the possibility of integrating DESERT-MAP platform with its monitoring systems of endemic and epidemic in Spain.

  • INES at SBCUP 2015

    INES will be represented at the SBCUP 2015, to be held in Recife (Brazil) as part of CSBC 2015 from 20-July-2015 to 23-July-2015. Research members from the “Indolor – Indoor Location Radar” project had the following paper accepted on this conference:

  • UFCG members visit HP Laboratories

    The technical cooperation between HP-Brazil and UFCG allows reseachers to exchange information about data analysis and requirements in such a way that UFCG team can apply techniques over HP data to extract useful information. In this context, two members of UFCG will visit HP laboratories in Port Alegre to capture requirements and to select methods (descriptive and predictive analysis) to be applied.

  • A SW platform for mathematical processing of satellite imaging (in real-time)

    Researchers acquire 56% of the equipment provided in the DESERT-MAP project. The equipment is being used in the construction of a plataform for satellite imaging capture, mathematical processing compartmentalization of images and providing them as a platform for application development.

    First results

    To validate the platform researchers built a risk assessment map to desertification of an area of the northeastern semi-arid (Floresta-PE).

    The first image read by Geosere satellites and processed by the platform can be found here:

    Next steps

    The complete process used to it will be described and submitted to a scientific journal.

    A web layer is underconstruction. We will call this app for risk of desertification, “desert-maps” like “google-maps”. This is not coincidence.

    Researchers acquire 40% of the equipment according to project HEALTHDRONES. The equipment is to improve the simulation infrastructure to test algorithms used to assess the degree of programmability of the software platform developed for UAVs.

    The first results

    Some autonomous simulation test flight controlled by our “API” in a Parrot Elite model and without GPS or GPRS or any kind of manufacturer facility have been done. They can be found here:

    Some photos are also available illustrating how we use Arduino to control the UAV. Thus, we became independent of the trading platform.

    The next steps

    The entire process will be documented in a dissertation to be completed in August 2015 ( and subsequently published in a scientific journal in the area.

    Another dissertation is underway (first results even in 2015). This tests the degree of programmability platform developed when applied to control outbreaks in populations.

  • UFCG improves the infrastructure of its laboratory

    The Software Practices Laboratory (SPLab) of UFCG improves its infrastructure of the INES project’s team by refurbishing the chairs used by the team and intalling glass boardings. These items were essential to provide a more confortable, fair and productive athmosphere in the laboratory.

  • ArqIoT Research Group at UBS, Vannes – France

    In December 2015, the ArchIoT Research group will work together with the French pattern at the Université de Bretagne-Sud (UBS), Vannes – France, with the goal of evaluating the ArchIoT tool. Prof. Flávio Oquendo (IRISA-UBS, Vannes) will receive Eduardo Silva, Jair Leite and Thais Batista, from UFRN, at UBS for this research and development mission.

    In December 2014, the ArqIoT Research Group also worked together with the French pattern at UBS, Vannes – France.

  • Technical visit of Prof. Marcel Oliveira from UFRN to the University of York

    Prof. Marcel Oliveira, of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, will make a technical visit to the University of York from the 10th of July, 2015 to the 18th of July, 2015. On this visit, the researcher will be hosted by Prof. Ana Cavalcanti and his PhD student Madiel Filho, which is currently making a sandwich PhD at that university.

    The researchers will work on the theoretical foundations of a local analysis livelock strategy. This work involves proving that the proposed rules in fact guarantee the absence of livelock in the composition of components.
