The paper entitled Towards a framework for gamification design on crowdsourcing systems: The G.A.M.E. Approach.was accepted on the 12th International Conference on Information Technology : New Generations (ITNG 2015). The event will be held in April 13-15, 2015, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

This paper is a result of the work being done by the student from the Master’s degree Program on Computer Science at UFBA, Jailson Brito, advised by Prof. Vaninha Vieira and Dr. Adolfo Duran. This work is part of the projects “Models, Processes and Tools for the Development of Context-Sensitive Systems” and “An Intelligent, Ubiquitous and Context Sensitive Public Transportation System”.

The paper presents G.A.M.E., a conceptual framework to guide the design of gamification in crowdsourcing- based systems. The framework provides a flexible step-by-step guideline that combines knowledge from software engineering, collaborative systems, game design and interaction design. The approach was tested on two applications related to intelligent public transportation: the Wikibus and the Ubibus-Cars.

The INES sub-project “An Intelligent, Ubiquitous and Context Sensitive Public Transportation System” had two papers (a full paper and a short paper) accepted for publication in the VIII Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems (Simpósio Brasileiro de Sistemas Colaborativos – SBSC).
SBSC will occur in October 5th – 7th in Paraty/RJ.

The full paper presents the results of a survey conducted with public transportation users which investigates how collaborative systems based on social networks and collective intelligence can support sharing information with the passengers. The results show that there is a scarcity of ways to obtain real-time information related to public transportation and that the use of social network applications and collective intelligence is an interesting way to share and obtain this kind of information. This is a result of collaboration among researchers of UTFPR-Campo Mourão and UFBA.
The short paper proposes a social network application that enables users to create routes on maps that can be edited collaboratively. This paper is part of the graduation work of a UTFPR-Campo Mourão student.

The paper entitled Towards an Ubiquitous and Context Sensitive Public Transportation Systemwas accepted on the 4th International Conference on Ubi-Media Computing (U-Media 2011). This paper is a result of the work being done by the researchers of the project “Models, Processes and Tools for the Development of Context-Sensitive Systems” that resulted in the project accepted in the Grand Challenges for Computer Science call (2010) see list here.

The paper presents UbiBus, a proposal for a ubiquitous, context-sensitive public transportation system that aims to specify and implement technological solutions (e.g. models, algorithms and tools) to ease the access to information about public transportations. It considers the mobility of people and vehicles and the occurrence of dynamic factors that could affect the transportation and provide passengers with advanced information about the available public transportation in a city.

The collaboration between the INES Context Group and the Universidade Estadual do Maringá (UEM) brings new results with the acceptance of the paper entitled “A Context Conceptual Model for a Distributed Software Development Environment” in the 22nd International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE’2010), which occurs in July 1-3, 2010, San Francisco, USA.

The paper describes a  conceptual  model  focused on contextual information for DiSEN, a distributed software engineering  environment.  Main  contributions  found  on  the paper  are:  (i)  the  identification  of  a  set  of  information  that composes environment entities context ; and (ii) the definition of a model that facilitates domain semantics comprehension, reducing communication gaps.”

This paper is a result of the Master Thesis in Computer Science of Ana Paula Chaves, advised by Prof. Elisa Huzita, at UEM. This work uses the context framework for designing context-sensitive systems, proposed by Prof. Vaninha Vieira (UFBA), during her PhD work (UFPE). This work reinforces the research collaboration between UEM, UFBA and the UTFPR in the area of context-sensitive systems for the domain of Distributed Software Development.

The INES Context Group is related to the project “Models, Processes and Tools for the Development of Context-Sensitive Systems”, in portuguese “Modelos, Processos e Ferramentas para o Desenvolvimento de Sistemas Sensíveis ao Contexto”.

The paper entitled “Using a Metamodel to Design Structural and Behavioral Aspects in Context-Sensitive Groupware” was accepted on the 14th International Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design (CSCWD2010). This papers is a direct result of the work being done by the project “Models, Processes and Tools for the Development of Context-Sensitive Systems” (UFPE, UFBA, UFPB e C.E.S.A.R).

The paper presents our proposal of a context metamodel, which indicates how to integrate structural and behavioral aspects in context modeling on groupware. To verify the applicability of the proposal and exemplify its usage, it was realized two experiments using two groupware applications: a expert recommender system, named ICARE; and a event-based notification system named DiSEN-Notifier.

  • Models, Processes and Tools for the Development of Context-Sensitive Systems

Publicado em May 13th, 2009About the Institute, News

In a time when people use different devices and systems to accomplish their different and daily tasks, using the concept of context in computing systems is becoming a necessity. Context supports a system to identify what can or cannot be relevant to the user, since it aids increasing the understanding about the situation the user is in. Systems that use contextual information to guide their actions and behavior are called context-sensitive systems. Developing such a system, however, is not trivial. One must solve questions such as: what kind of information to be considered as context, how to represent them, how they can be acquired and processed and how to design the context usage.

In order to reduce the complexity embedded in this kind of application, this project intends to build an infrastructure to support designers of context-sensitive systems, that includes a reference architecture, metamodels, processes and tools. It will be investigated how the usage of model-driven development (MDD) can assist building these applications. It will be developed some prototypes of applications related to modeling processes in distributed software development and mechanisms of context-sensitive recommendation in organizational social networks.

This project is coordinated by DCC/UFBA and CIn-UFPE, and has the participation of UFPB and CESAR. People interested in collaborate can contact us through vaninha@ufba.br.
